Always count myself incredibly fortunate to live in London. As an intetrior designer, always looking for inspiration, i am always in awe of the unrivaled level of art excellence within some architectural gems. The exhibition spaces in the city are dynamic with works that span the full breadth of art evolution - from classical antiquity to the innovations of contemporary visionaries.
With the cold days and long nights, a stroll might not be possible. London's great exhibiton spaces offer a great opportunity to encounter both traditional works and cutting-edge installations that challenge creative boundaries. As these exhibitions evolve and transform throughout 2025, they continue to position London at the forefront of global art, offering visitors unparalleled opportunities to engage with works that have shaped, and continue to shape, our cultural landscape.
Here are some of my favourites:
Yoshitomo Nara
Showing more than 150 works in drawing, painting, printmaking and ceramics, experience the captivating world of Yoshitomo Nara, one of Japan’s most celebrated artist.
Abi Morocco Photos: Spirit of Lagos
An expression of love, fashion in 1970s Lagos. As the economy grew and prosperity flourished, husband and wife duo, Abi Morocco documented life in Nigeria. The exhibition showcases a series of celebration from intimate affairs like weddings to graduations. A joyous celebration with all energy captured through their lens.
Jim Hodges: It only takes a minute
A work that explores psychology, spirituality and emotions. Hodges invites you to experience living art. Experiences that go beyond and incased in simplicity. Something as an interior designer is very relatable. The work travels across various tempos, playfulness with light and shadows, relationships, cultures and barriers. Hodges describes the work as “Valuing the common and every day we meet, to co-create the art where our shared humanity may be felt, and in feeling we can find affirmation and reminders of the delicacy, fragility and preciousness that is our human materiality. And in this materiality of site specificity, each of us shines with one another across the field of art’s infinity.”
Three Screen Ray
Bruce Conner’s 2006 film ‘Three Screen Ray serves an experience like no other. A cinematic feast in collaboration with editor Michelle Silva. This is will the first UK exhibition of Conner’s work which challenges consumerism and aggression.
Thomas Dane Gallery, 3 Duke Street, St James’s London, SW1Y 6BN
Virginia Overton
Virginia Overton,Untitled (yellow square), 2024
Showcasing a body of works, the exhibition includes multiple art mediums from photography to sculpture and installation. Overton’s approach I really appreciate as an interior designer as it is based on intuitive response to a particular environment and space. While I develop design through in-depth conversation with clients, Overton process begins with research to re-engage and activate a person’s spatial and sensory experience.
